The ECOSUR 2025–2030 Institutional Program is based on a diagnostic assessment that highlights the great biological and cultural richness of this region, while also recognizing important challenges that must be addressed in order to improve living conditions for the population and environmental health in southeastern Mexico. In this context, ECOSUR positions itself as a public research center in the humanities, sciences, technology, and innovation, and as part of the National System of Public Centers of SECIHTI. Its mission focuses on generating knowledge, training human resources, and fostering engagement with communities, organizations, and institutions of Mexico’s Southern Border to contribute to the sustainability and social well-being of the region.
To this end, the 2025–2030 Institutional Program outlines four Strategic Objectives, each divided into two Strategies, with a total of 31 lines of action and 8 indicators.
Strategic Objective 1. Strengthen inter-institutional and multi-actor collaboration for basic, inter-, and transdisciplinary scientific research and training that provides solutions to the priority socio-environmental problems of the Southern Border and the country, for the well-being of the population and their territories.
Strategic Objective 2. Contribute to the construction of peaceful, egalitarian, and inclusive spaces, free from gender-based violence and discrimination, through shared responsibility with society, educational, research, and governmental institutions within ECOSUR, as well as throughout the region.
Strategic Objective 3. Promote open science as a unifying axis of collaboration within ECOSUR to strengthen research, training processes, innovation, and the application of relevant socio-environmental technologies in the region.
Strategic Objective 4. Strengthen ECOSUR’s presence and inter-institutional partnerships to position the Southern Border at the national and international levels.
