The instrument aims to partially amend the Agreement through which the National Animal Health Emergency System is activated, integrated, and operated, in order to prevent the entry and spread of the New world screwworm (NWS) caused by the fly (Cochliomyia hominivorax) and, if necessary, control and eradicate it in regions 6 and 7, with the possibility of gradually, partially, or fully extending its application to the other regions specified in Article 134 of the LFSA regulations in case the presence or imminent spread of the pest is detected or scientifically evidenced in other states of the national territory.
The foregoing is intended to control the advance and spread of the New world screwworm (NWS) and, if necessary, eradicate it from the national territory, thereby reducing the economic and social impact that this pest may cause to the country.
