There are phytosanitary restrictions for the national movement and export of avocado to other countries, due to the presence of the large avocado pit borer (Heilipus lauri), the small avocado pit borer (Contrachelus aguacatae and C. perseae) and the avocado pit borer moth (Stenoma catenifer). In accordance with article 107 of the Regulations of the Federal Law on Plant Health, as well as in the procedures indicated in the Modification of the Mexican Official Standard NOM-066-FITO-1995, Specifications for the phytosanitary management and mobilization of avocado and in the Mexican Official Standard NOM-069-FITO-1995, For the establishment and recognition of pest-free zones, there is no presence of the large avocado pit borer, small avocado pit borer or the avocado pit borer moth in the municipalities of Acuitzio, Angangueo, Apatzingán, Ario, Charapan, Charo, Churumuco, Cotija, Erongarícuaro, Gabriel Zamora, Hidalgo, Huiramba, Irimbo, Jiménez, Juárez, La Huacana, Los Reyes, Madero, Morelia, Morelos, Nahuatzen, Nuevo Parangaricutiro, Nuevo Urecho, Ocampo, Parácuaro, Patzcuaro, Periban, Purépero, Quiroga, Salvador Escalante, Tacámbaro, Tancítaro, Tangamandapio, Tangancicuaro, Taretan, Tingambato, Tingüindín, Tlazazalca, Tocumbo, Turicato, Tuxpan, Tzintzuntzan, Tzitzio, Uruapan, Zacapu, Ziracuaretiro and Zitácuaro in the state of Michoacán de Ocampo; Ahualulco de Mercado, Arandas, Concepción de Buenos Aires, Gómez Farias, La Manzanilla de la Paz, Mazamitla, Quitupan, San Gabriel, San Juanito de Escobedo, Sayula, Tapalpa, Valle de Guadalupe, Valle de Juarez, Zapotiltic and Zapotlán el Grande in the state of Jalisco; Jala, San Pedro Lagunillas, Santa Maria del Oro, Tepic and Xalisco in the state of Nayarit; Ocuituco, Tetela del Volcán, Totolapan, Yecapixtla, and Zacualpan de Amilpas in the state of Morelos; Atlixco, Cohuecan, Huaquechula, Ocoyucan, Tianguismanalco, and Tochimilco in the state of Puebla; Leonardo Bravo in the state of Guerrero; Donato Guerra, Temascaltepec, and Villa de Allende in the state of Mexico; as well as in the agroecological zone of San Martín and Capulín Redondo, in the Municipality of Coatepec Harinas, in the State of Mexico, the agroecological zone of Loma Cruz de Piedra, in the Municipality of Coatepec Harinas, in the State of Mexico, the agroecological zone of Cruz Verde, in the Municipality of San Simón de Guerrero, in the State of Mexico, the agroecological zone of Miahuatlán, in the Municipality of Ixtapan del Oro, in the State of Mexico, the agroecological zone that includes the communities of Tlalnepantla, Pedregal, El Vigía and Felipe Neri in the Municipality of Tlalnepantla, in the State of Morelos, the agroecological zone of Buenavista del Monte, in the Municipality of Cuernavaca, in the State of Morelos, the agroecological zone of Puente de la Dama, in the Municipality of General Heliodoro Castillo, in the State of Guerrero, the agroecological zone of El Aguacate, in the municipalities of Coyuca de Catalán, Petatlán and Tecpan de Galeana, in the state of Guerrero, and the Duarte agroecological zone, which includes the communities of Cuesta Blanca, Duarte, and Las Coloradas in the municipality of León, in the state of Guanajuato. Therefore, by recognizing them as free zones, the objective of preserving the phytosanitary status of avocado-growing areas in Mexico is met, as well as protecting domestic and international avocado trade.
