Tras la entrada en vigor de la norma se identificaron algunas inconsistencias relacionadas con las especificaciones establecidas y los métodos de prueba descritos en la misma, lo que dificulta su total cumplimiento como son: que no estuviera referida en el cuerpo de la norma la NOM-127-SSA1-1994 de agua para uso y consumo humano, siendo el agua la materia prima del producto que se regula; establecimiento de un límite máximo permitido que no podía ser medido debido a que el nivel de detección del método de prueba era superior a éste; la falta de un método de prueba para la determinación de un parámetro como es el caso de carbono orgánico purgable por lo que es eliminado; limitación en el uso de métodos alternativos. Asimismo, se identificaron algunos puntos cuya redacción no era lo suficientemente clara o simplemente podían ser redactados de manera más sencilla para facilitar su comprensión y aplicación o incluso requerían ser eliminados por ser repetitivos.
